The Punt Acca: Laurence Morter's three horse racing tips from Newcastle and Yarmouth

Three horses to include in a treble on Tuesday . . .

Al Misbar (3.05 Yarmouth)

A twice beaten favourite, Al Misbar has shown glimpses he could have some quality. Fourth on debut, he followed that performance up with an impressive second place at Newmarket where he ran strongly but seemed to run out of steam in the closing stages. It appears as though things have just not clicked for him yet but his breeding alone suggests it is only a matter of time he lands a race like this, the drop back to six furlongs should bring the best out of him as there is a lot of speed in his family and it could be a case of third time lucky.

Sycamore Gap (4.24 Newcastle)

Sycamore Gap has yet to win in 15 races but recent performances suggest he is getting closer to an elusive first win. An eye-catching performance at Musselburgh at the end of August was followed up with a narrow defeat at Hamilton a fortnight ago where he did everything right but was just held. He has looked better since being stepped up to a mile and a half and although his performances on the all-weather have not been as good as his turf runs, he has yet to run over a mile and a half on the all-weather. Everything looks to be falling into place for him and he could break his duck here.

Alcazan (4.35 Yarmouth)

Alcazan has been in reasonably good form this summer, and she had back-to-back wins at Ascot and Brighton. She has dropped off a bit since then, seemingly finding the five furlongs at York a bit on the sharp side. However she looked back to her best last time out over six furlongs at Goodwood where she raced well but was no match for the winner. She is still 3lb above her last winning mark but she won this race last season and looks well placed to repeat that effort.
