The Punt Acca: Laurence Morter's three horse racing tips at Kempton and Wincanton on Boxing Day

Three horses to include in a multiple on Boxing Day

Hyland (1.20 Kempton)

Hyland has continued his fine chasing form this season with two wins at Cheltenham. He made all last time, holding off a strong challenge from two out to claim a fantastic win. The big question mark over him heading into this is how he will react going right-handed having never contested a chase going that way around. However, his biggest strength is his jumping ability which he showcased last time, jumping all the fences in a straightforward manner which should get him out of any potential trouble he encounters. He gallops strongly which is always a bonus at Kempton and he will like the ground. He looks on the up and should give another good account of himself.

Passing Well (2.03 Wincanton)

Passing Well has posted back-to-back runner-up finishes this season to suggest he has the ability to perform at this level. He was slightly unlucky last time, running well but making a couple of mistakes which appeared to sap all his momentum. However, he showed character to rally in the closing stages and even though he was unable to catch the winner, it was a good performance. He has yet to win a Class 3 and will have to defy top weight, but he is a consistent sort who has tons of stamina, and if he can jump a bit better, a first win at this level does not look too far off.

Grey Dawning (2.30 Kempton)

Grey Dawning was, arguably, unlucky on his reappearance this season. In challenging conditions he looked as though he was about to make a winning return but a mistake at the last fence took all the momentum he had and he was narrowly beaten. Ultimately it was a disappointing result but there were plenty of positives to take from it, mainly that he showed he has plenty of stamina and was fit enough to finish the race after being off for seven months. The quick turnaround to get into this race suggests his trainer, Dan Skelton, believes he has suffered no ill effects and is firing on all cylinders as after his run at Haydock he was quoted as saying he will not be running at Christmas. He will need to be at his absolute best as there is a lot of quality in the field, but all signs point toward another strong showing.
