The Punt Acca: Harry Wilson with three tips from Haydock and Wolverhampton on Saturday
Three horses to include in a treble on Saturday . . .
Iroko (1.50 Haydock)
It was such a shame that Iroko missed so much of last season with an injury, as he looked one to follow after winning decisively on his chasing debut at Warwick in November last year. The form of his second in the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices' Chase at Aintree in April looks solid, given Heart Wood (third) has since beaten Corbetts Cross in a Listed event and Chianti Classico (fourth) has lumped 12st to victory at Ascot, and he rates a good option in this field, with plenty looking likely to need this reappearance and Trelawne's tendency to jump right.
Grey Dawning (3.05 Haydock)
Grey Dawning emphatically saw off Gaillard Du Mesnil in the graduation chase on this card 12 months ago and gave Grade 1-winning hurdler Apple Away 10lb and a 14-length beating in a Grade 2 novice chase at Warwick last season before landing the now defunct Turners Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. He looks sure to improve for returning to three miles, having looked outpaced in the Manifesto at Aintree when last seen, and any rain that falls is in his favour.
Commander Straker (7.25 Wolverhampton)
A talented juvenile who ran the now 109-rated Holguin to half a length on his debut and comfortably made all in a Bath novice on his two 5f starts, he returned from a near two-year break with a fine effort in a better race here in March, weakening in the closing stages having raced keenly over 6f. He has had wind surgery since, been dropped 1lb and is now dropped in class after another break. This pacey front-runner could prove better than his opposition dropping to 5f for Dave Loughnane.
