Beau Quali (11.55 Newcastle)

The five-year-old was a promising second on his British debut in October at Chepstow, where he beat subsequent ten-length Newbury winner Peso by seven and a half lengths. The form of Beau Quali's fourth-placed effort at Stratford on his second start for Dan Skelton has also worked out well as the runner-up, Sixmilebridge, has won both of his starts since and the third gave upwards of 7lb to his five rivals when scoring by 12 lengths on his next outing. The selection bumped into another well-regarded rival at Kempton on Boxing Day when he chased home Kientzheim, who was making a successful start for top connections in JP McManus and Nicky Henderson. Beau Quali should go one better in this weaker maiden hurdle to make Harry Skelton's first ride at Newcastle since March 2022 a winning one.

Camulus (12.40 Ludlow)

The son of Walk In The Park has been sent off at no bigger odds than 7-2 on his three starts since joining Venetia Williams and has been unlucky to come up against some incredibly well-handicapped opposition. Camulus was runner-up to Galway Mahler, who followed up off 5lb higher to complete a hat-trick, on his stable debut at Lingfield last February, before beating subsequent winner Seymour Promise by 20 lengths at Wincanton the following month. The eight-year-old was fourth behind Lightonthewing, who has won twice since off higher marks, on that occasion and the runner-up, West Orchard, is rated 21lb higher having gone on to win three handicap chases. Camulus was third behind Aworkinprogress, who backed that victory up off 8lb higher, at Lingfield last time and has been dropped 2lb for that respectable run. Ned Fox's claim means that he is effectively competing off a career-low figure of 92 and given that he was beaten only three-quarters of a length by the now 152-rated Nick Rockett in his point-to-point, he is handicapped to gain a first success under rules at the 11th attempt.

Aviation (1.15 Ludlow)

The form of his hurdling debut at Warwick has worked out well as he split subsequent winners Don't Mind If I Do and Dangerous Touch when finishing third in November. The fifth-placed Lanesborough would have been another winner to come out of that maiden hurdle had he been ridden more prominently on his handicap debut on Wednesday at Hereford, where he was beaten a head. Aviation looked a winner in waiting when finishing second over this 2m5f trip last time when he beat Jaccours by half a length. Jaccours had previously finished 16 lengths clear of Monty Bodkin, one of Aviation's main market rivals here, in a bumper and that formline makes me think that Jamie Snowden's Dwight K Schrute is the main danger on his rules debut.
