The Punt Acca: Charlie Huggins' three horse racing tips at Doncaster and Leopardstown on Saturday
Three horses to include in a treble on Saturday . . .
Chantez (1.10 Leopardstown)
Beaten a head by Exactly on her debut and the Aidan O'Brien-trained winner has finished second to her unbeaten Royal Ascot-winning stablemate, Bedtime Story, on both of her starts since. Chantez went one better than that decent Leopardstown effort on her return to the track last month when scoring by three lengths over Indigo Dream. She should confirm the form with the runner-up over the same course and distance here and the daughter of Wootton Bassett beat main market rival, Bubbling, by just under four lengths when the pair last met in July.
Ghostwriter (3.25 Leopardstown)
Unbeaten in three starts as a juvenile including Group 2 success in the Royal Lodge Stakes and has made the frame at the highest level in all four outings this season. The son of Invincible Spirit was fourth in a strong running of 2,000 Guineas, won by subsequent Group 1 Sussex Stakes scorer Notable Speech. Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes hero Rosallion and subsequent Group 3 Jersey Stakes winner Haatem were the only other rivals ahead of Ghostwriter, who beat future Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner Inisherin and City Of Troy in the Newmarket Classic. The Clive Cox-trained three-year-old has performed with credit since going beyond a mile, finishing a place behind subsequent Grand Prix de Paris winner Sosie in the Prix du Jockey Club before beaten only by City Of Troy and Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin winner Al Riffa in the Coral-Eclipse. Filling the same position behind Derby winner City Of Troy in the Juddmonte International last time is rock-solid form and given he beat Zarakem by 17 and a quarter lengths at York, he should have the beating of Auguste Rodin here. Zarakem was beaten only three-quarters of a length by Auguste Rodin in the Prince of Wales's Stakes and Ghostwriter meets that Royal Ascot winner on only 1lb worse terms than when finishing well clear of the runner-up on the Knavesmire. He might find Ecomonics too good, but Ghostwriter is an attractive each-way proposition to have his day in the sun, should the favourite flounder.
Illinois (3.40 Doncaster)
Returns to the same 1m6f trip as his Queen's Vase success after running well in defeat over 1m4f on his two starts since. Illinois stayed on well when runner-up to Sosie in Group 1 company at Longchamp in July and when chasing home his Irish Derby-winning stablemate Los Angeles in the Great Voltigeur Stakes. Trainer Aidan O'Brien's last two winners of the St Leger — Kew Gardens and Continuous — ran in that York Group 2 prior to success in the Doncaster Classic and Illinois can continue the trend here.
