Call Glory (3.50 Southwell)

There aren’t many new recruits Mick Appleby fails to win with but the Rutland trainer couldn’t find the key to Call Glory for all he ran some nice races under his tutelage. Ian Williams may have inherited a well-handicapped horse, the four-year-old's first run for him over what now looks to be his optimum trip of 6f was very encouraging (finished second). The contest he was only eighth in just five days later had plenty of depth to it and the likes of Ormolulu and Grenham Bay have done well since. This 0-65 is winnable.

Next Trick (7.00 Kempton)

Question marks can be placed against all of the runners in the mile fillies’ handicap at Kempton and Next Trick appears to have the most upside. Her best effort in Ireland for Dermot Weld came when runner-up in a Gowran maiden last summer. Those who finished around her are now rated between 70-86 so Archie Watson’s new recruit, who connections paid 70,000gns for, really ought to make a splash off a BHA mark of 67 sooner rather than later.

Gemmari (8.00 Kempton)

Richard Hannon’s Gemmari looks up to giving mare Gravitation yet another winner. All but one of the Flat winners she’s produced thrived over 1m2f+ and running in a middle-distance handicap for the first time could be the making of our three-year-old. He improved from a low base in novice/maiden company, culminating in a fair seventh at the track last month. Strength in the market, and possible weakness in Gray Rainbow who looks the chief threat, would increase confidence.
