Progressive as 2yo, running well at the Ebor meeting before powering clear in a sales race at Doncaster's St Leger meeting (6.5f, soft); came up short in Group 3 and Listed events at Newbury in the spring but he made light of a BHA mark of 100 when dropped back into handicap company at Pontefract in July, strong at the finish and looking to have more in the tank; that run, as well as the peak 2yo effort, was on soft ground but he has form on a faster surface; has had a wind op since Pontefract; this is likely to have been the plan for a while and he's a major player.

Tactician 3.55 Newmarket
Relished the step up to 2m when winning at Ascot (good) in July and shaped quite well considering a drop back to 1m6f didn't look ideal when sixth of 16 in the ultra-competitive Melrose at the York Ebor meeting (good to firm) four weeks ago; cheekpieces are added and he's faced with stamina test which should play to his strengths; leading claims for last year's winning yard.

Bushfire 5.20 Chester
His last win was a year ago but that was off 5lb higher and he's run well to finish placed at Newcastle (1m2f, AW) and Carlisle (1m1f, soft) in last two runs; finished well for a clear second behind an all-the-way winner last time and he's highly respected back up in trip.
