'He should be closer to 5-2 than 5-1' - David Jennings answers the key questions on Arc day
What's the big story?
It's Arc day, the most glorious of occasions in a city that has already staged some of the most memorable sporting moments of the year. Now it is time for another.
We don't have City Of Troy or Economics or the geldings Calandagan and Goliath for that matter, but forget who we don't have and focus on who is running. We have a fabulous race, as open as I can remember for many a year, and you can make valid cases for about a dozen of the 16 runners.
Look forward to it. Enjoy it. Savour it. It only comes along once a year and it won't be long before we are wondering whether The Lion In Winter will win it in 2025.
Who wins the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe?
Sosie. He has sort of sneaked in under the radar, hasn't he? There wasn't really a word about him before the Grand Prix de Paris, but he taught Illinois a lesson there and he did the same to Look De Vega in the Prix Niel.
You can argue all you want about the French Derby winner needing the run and how much he will come on for it, but he has a lot of ground to make up on Sosie and I don't think he will reverse that form.
Stall five is fine, Maxime Guyon is fantastic and what can you say about Andre Fabre that hasn't been said already?
Sosie is 5-1 and I would suggest he should be closer to 5-2.
What’s the bet of the day?
Field Of Gold in the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (1.30) at Longchamp. There is just something about this colt that has drawn me in from the very start.
His workmanlike victory in the Solario Stakes wasn't anything special, but he was never going to get beaten and he looks like the Gosdens' best chance of Classic glory in 2025. I'll be disappointed if he can't land this on the way.

And the lay of the day?
I don't fancy Fallen Angel at all in the Prix de l'Opera (4.05) and fully expect Ylang Ylang to reverse recent form with her from the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.
Fancy anything over the jumps at Kelso?
Traprain Law can rule in the 2m1f handicap chase (3.50). Tommy's Oscar is in there, but he has to give 20lb to my fancy and that might prove beyond him.
There's a nice mixed card at Tipperary. What's the best bet there?
Gorgeous Tom in the Grade 3 O'Dwyer Steel Dundrum Novice Chase (4.50). I liked what I saw at Wexford and he looks just the type Henry de Bromhead does so well with.
