Sandown Placepot tips: Tom Segal's perm for the £50,000 guaranteed pool
Sandown is always well watered, so let's hope there aren't many non-runners on what is sure to be an informative card.
Most eyes will be on Jeriko Du Reponet in the novice handicap chase (2.15) because he was the shortest priced British-trained horse in the Supreme last season and his hurdles form was given a boost when Lump Sum, who he beat easily in January, landed the Welsh Champion Hurdle. He should be much too good for his three opponents.
Anno Power was recently described by Harry Fry as one of the fastest horses he's trained and she looked special when winning a Cheltenham bumper last season. She should have little trouble making a winning hurdling debut in the 2m maiden hurdle (1.40).
The other banker is Falco Des Pins in the opening handicap hurdle (12.30) for the Venetia Williams team, who have started the season well. It won't be easy against some experienced handicappers on his British debut but he could be a lot better than his opening mark.
The other races don't have many runners but will probably need a couple of selections, especially in the veterans' chase (3.25), where all four can be given a chance. Certainly Red and Good Boy Bobby are weighted to give Copperhead a fright on recent Chepstow form and, given they both like the track, they are the preferred pair.
Mole Court looks ready for a drop back in trip and is nicely treated, so he's included in the 2m4f handicap chase (1.05) along with Abingworth, who needs to jump better but is extremely dangerous if he puts in a clear round.
The most competitive race on the card is the 2m handicap hurdle (2.50). Lario is likely to be popular for the in-form Harry Derham but watch out for a good run from the bottomweight Jour D'Evasion, who was nibbled at in the market in a better race than this at Ascot last week, only to stumble and unseat his rider after jumping the first.
