Paul Kealy's play of the day at Ascot

Kamboo

2.10 Ascot

Kamboo was set some seriously stiff tasks early this season, running in the Derby straight out of novice company, then being sent to Royal Ascot for a big handicap, and he never showed much in either.

However, after a short break he was well backed and confidently ridden to success by Cieren Fallon in a Racing League heat at Newcastle, pulling out plenty at the end, which suggests he'll see out what will be a very stiff 1m4f well.

The lack of solid turf form may be a consideration, but he has an action that suggests easy ground is what he wants, and he's a half-brother to the ill-fated Sir Erec, who won a Listed race on heavy ground and finished third in the Champions Long Distance Cup on soft, and I think he'll love it.
