Newmarket Placepot picks: Paul Kealy's perm for the £75k guaranteed pool

Putting unraced maidens into Placepot perms always involves guesswork, but Charlie Appleby has run five such horses in Newmarket's opener (1.07) since 2019 and four of them have won, so his Verse Of Love has to be considered.

Those with form have shown promise without anything particularly standing out. Aidan O'Brien's Dundalk second Head To Head is just about preferred.

The Strikin Viking is the one to beat in the Cornwallis (1.47), but there is plenty of pace in the race, so I want to add Coto De Caza and La Bellota, who are most likely to benefit.

In the third (2.25), Flight might prove happier back at 7f and looks the most likely winner. The two who beat her in the May Hill last time are first and second in the betting for the Fillies' Mile.

I'm adding Mandurah, who ran a cracker when fourth to Simmering at Ascot on her second outing and will appreciate another furlong.

As with the Cornwallis, there is loads of pace in the Challenge (3.00), which leads me to believe Shouldvebeenaring will run a big race. He goes in with favourite Noble Dynasty, who can be forgiven for missing the break last time.

There are only two places up for grabs in the Fillies' Mile (3.35). Desert Flower is the obvious one after winning the May Hill so well, while I wouldn't be surprised if Dreamy was a better filly than January despite what the jockey bookings may suggest, and she's the back-up.

That just leaves the Old Rowley Cup (4.10), which has the dreaded 15 runners, meaning only three places apply. The two absolute standouts are Mount Atlas and Brioni, though, and hopefully at least one will do the business.
