Newmarket Placepot picks: Paul Kealy's perm for the £150,000 guaranteed pool

Newmarket's opening nursery (1.15) looks wide open but there might be a few non-runners given the state of the ground. I thought Magic Love relished at least a bit of cut on her first go on it at Thirsk last time and she's first on the list for the Placepot perm.

I'll add Geo, who has something to prove on the surface but looked ahead of the handicapper last time.

There isn't much soft-ground form to go on in the next (1.50) but Puppet Master sluiced home in the mud last time, while I rate Wimbledon Hawkeye's York run as the best in the race, so those two will do.

Babouche and Lake Victoria are the clear form picks for the Cheveley Park (2.25) but neither has run in the mud, so I'm going to go for an upset with the two French raiders, Daylight and Rayevka.

In the Middle Park (3.00), Whistlejacket has easily the best form and likes the mud, so he's the obvious banker.

The early action at Newmarket suggested that either one of the two rails will be the best place to be in the Cambridgeshire (3.40), so I'll go with two drawn low and two drawn high.

Course-and-distance winner Liberty Lane (four) has top weight but has earned it, Bennetot (six) is in cracking form for David O'Meara, Norwalk Havoc (26) is the main fancy and Dual Identity (30) has been consistent this season and has no ground worries.

The market will tell us more about the final leg (4.15) but Wild Angel showed promise on her debut and is a half-sister to a heavy-ground Group 1 winner, so she's first on the list, while Saqqara Sands was just a bit too green on her debut and will have learned a lot from it.
