Newbury Placepot tips: Robbie Wilders' picks for the £50,000 guarantee

The fields might be on the small side at Newbury, but the racing is competitive and plenty have chances in the first leg (12.30) of the Placepot.

King William Rufus was second to Jeriko Du Reponet on his previous run at this track and went close on his return, while Hooper loves this ground and is dangerously treated on his return from 18 months off.

L'Astronome began the season rated 105 on the Flat and it will be interesting to see what he can do over hurdles for James Owen in the next (1.05). Pure Carbon took to this discipline nicely last month and is the other pick.

Destroytheevidence, an impressive winner of a strong handicap at Chepstow on his comeback, has the tools to double up in the novice handicap chase (1.40).

The mares' novice hurdle (2.17) looks a great opportunity for Listentoyourheart. She was a high-class bumper performer and looked good on her hurdles debut.

Henry's Friend and American Sniper are my two in a tight Pertemps qualifier (2.52), while it might be worth having a couple of options in the final leg (3.27).

Thelasthighking, whose best performance last season came at this time of year, and chasing debutant Masaccio are the pair to keep onside.
