Newbury Placepot tips: Paul Kealy's perm for the £75k guaranteed pool at Newbury

There is not much hurdling form to go on in Newbury's opener (12.45), but it will be disappointing if Regent's Stroll can't turn into a high-class novice hurdler and he should be banker material for Placepot punters.

The Paul Nicholls yard went to £660,000 to get him back after he was sold by Chris Giles following his two bumper wins, the second of them here.

Nicholls has the short-priced favourite in Kalif Du Berlais for the next (12.45), despite his novice chase fall less than three weeks ago. He jumped fine until he came down and is potentially different class, but you can hardly bank on him, so I'll add the consistent Tedley, who does jump well.

In the third (1.20), we have no real idea how good the ex-French-trained Miss Altea Blue is, but Ambiente Amigo was a good filly on the Flat and could be too good for most of the others if she brushes up her jumping. The other James Owen horse, Opec, also makes some appeal.

It's any two from four in the novice chase as far as I'm concerned (1.55), but Johnnywho's impressive Carlisle win means he has to go in. The Jukebox Man is the other selection.

Galop De Chasse and Scarface are the two I like most in the fifth (2.30), while the final leg (3.05) has only four runners, and Strong Leader looks by far the most likely winner unless Langer Dan suddenly finds unusually good autumn form over a new trip.
