Amateur rider David Maxwell has some decent horses to look forward to in the coming seasons, most notably recent Champion Bumper fifth El Cairos, and Queensbury Boy is right up there in terms of promise.
Not everyone will want to bank on an amateur in a Placepot, but of the runners in Newbury's opening novice hurdle (1.55), Queensbury Boy had easily the best bumper form and won easily on his hurdles debut at Doncaster just under three weeks ago. He should make the first two at the very least.
I like the bottom two in the next (2.30) as Havaila has taken surprisingly well to chasing and Art Of Diplomacy has been running very consistently.
The third race (3.00) looks wide open but Glory And Fortune was in good form when last seen and is 13lb lower than when winning the 2022 Betfair Hurdle at this track, while Anyharminasking has a tendency to run well when fresh and is another on a good mark.
The next (3.30) is tough as well, but Zain Nights, who ran poorly in the Pertemps, is back at his favourite track in a first-time visor. He won in first-time cheekpieces on the Flat at the track in 2022, and his overall course form figures under both codes are 122131.
Hititi, who seems to love finishing second (ten times in all), is the other obvious one.
Stormy Flight is the one I like most in the fifth leg (4.02), but Kikijo is the unexposed one with the potential so he goes in too. My two against the field in a tricky last (4.37) are Mahler Moon, who should improve for his second run after a break and a wind op, and Murphy's Milan, who will surely relish this first crack at 3m.
