Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings
Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .
Carlisle
3.30: Wise Guy
The 5yo Wise Guy enjoyed a productive novice campaign last season, including a comfortable C&D win, and he can make a winning return. To Chase A Dream is another 5yo who could have more to offer and he may be the chief danger ahead of Eire Street and Don Virginia. The Dan Skelton-trained Don Hollow is one to watch in the betting on his first start since April 2023.
Ben Hutton
Clonmel
2.28: Straight Home
The Willie Mullins-trained Straight Home has plenty of weight to carry but she looks a class above the rest and can strike under Patrick Mullins. Down near the foot of the weights, Romella is entitled to respect after her eyecatching second at Fairyhouse, while Granpa Ger has to enter the discussion if his Galway flop can be forgiven. Duke Otto and Rene Artois both have place possibilities.
Adrian Wall
Ludlow
3.55: Faerie Cutlass
Kim Bailey's Faerie Cutlass needs further than the 2m3f she ran over at Warwick a month ago so that was a good run all things considered. Absolutely Fine had no excuses when a beaten favourite on his handicap debut but it was a solid effort and he should progress further. Rubys Reward has each-way claims.
Alistair Jones
Nottingham
5.00: Temper Trap
With the aid of almost a career-low mark initially, Temper Trap has staged a serious resurgence on his last four starts, winning over 7f in the mud on the last two. This return to 1m is not a serious concern and his peak efforts last term suggest that he has probably had a bit left in the tank. It's a hard choice among the rest but the hugely unexposed handicap newcomer Genta is feared most and Daisy Roots needs respect for her recent results, even though they were delivered on different surfaces.
Richard Austen
Southwell
8.00: Rock Opera
A competitive sprint featuring several runners of interest. Justcallmepete and Raatea lurk on dangerous marks, while True Promise isn't discounted but the widest stall won't help. The two against the field are Asimov and Rock Opera, with the latter preferred in a race that could be run to suit.
Paul Smith
Wolverhampton
7.15: Lia Rose
The consistent Idyllic should again make her presence felt while Red Treasure and three-time course winner Kaaress also hold claims, but this may be between old rivals Renesmee and Lia Rose. The former gained the verdict by half a length when the pair met over C&D 19 days ago, but the latter is taken to reverse the placings given that she was making her AW debut that day and she hit the line with some purpose.
