Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Saturday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Chelmsford

7.30: Altanera

The potential seems to rest almost solely with Altanera, who took the step up to 1m6f in her stride on the Wolverhampton Tapeta on Monday. 2m now looks within range. The most solid place option appears to be Sir Joseph Swan.

Cheltenham

2.20: Some Scope

Broadway Boy had valid excuses for losing his form last season and this could be the start of a good campaign. However, he'll need to be right on the ball to concede quite so much weight to Some Scope who isn't short of potential himself as a stayer. Senior Chief is dangerously unexposed and probably well handicapped, so he's on the shortlist together with Le Milos and Pepe Le Moko.

Doncaster

5.00: Onemorenomore

Two-time course winner Onemorenomore was behind two thriving rivals when keeping on well for third over 6f here two starts ago, and can return to winning ways now back here. Racingbreaks Ryder snapped a losing sequence in dominant fashion at Catterick recently and is second choice ahead of the in-form three-year-olds Tennessee Gold and Count Palatine.

Galway

5.18: Gaoithe Glory

A very interesting four-year-old contest to finish off. Colcannon is one of the standard setters after finishing second at Punchestown and having been so unluckily disqualified after an impressive success at the same venue in February. Heads Up should improve for a good run in a Listowel winners contest, while O' Bon Pardon caught the eye in the Goffs Defender Bumper. However, it is almost a fool's errand to oppose anything from Eric McNamara's yard at the moment, and Gaoithe Glory can make up for an unlucky Listowel defeat here.

Kelso

3.55: Young Buster

Apple Away might need this en route to a bigger target and the stable's Corach Rambler ran no race in this 12 months ago before picking up afterwards. Last year's winner Elvis Mail and Famous Bridge are others who might not be at their best on this good ground. La Renommee has to be feared in her current vein of form but Young Buster handles any ground, he's 2-2 here and has a good record fresh.

Newbury

2.34: Sir Lowry's Pass

Arthur's Realm looks the most solid option among the older horses but preference is for two of the three-year-olds. One of them, Desperate Dan, has shown three times in the last month that he goes very well on soft and heavy ground but that was over a mile and there's a lingering question over his stamina. The vote therefore goes to Sir Lowry's Pass, who is the least exposed runner in the field. The clear promise of his Goodwood win was not fulfilled in a steadily run novice race on heavy going at Epsom but he showed enough to suggest that he acted on the ground and retains potential.
