Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Friday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Cheltenham

1.45: Springwell Bay

Promising chaser Springwell Bay is taken to defy a 5lb penalty for his tidy success in a similar event at Chepstow, the form of which received a strong boost last weekend. Hyland, whose unbeaten record on the Old course includes a comfortable win last time, is feared most. Resplendent Grey goes into deeper waters but looks open to further progress, while Buddy One still has a bit to prove over fences but holds a big chance on his peak hurdles figures.

Dundalk

4.45: Sounds Like A Plan

There was lots to like about the Navan debut win of Sounds Like A Plan back in May, his trainer sounding out stakes races in the coming weeks. He didn't run again, which is of slight concern, but he could take plenty of beating here on his return to action. The other previous winners in the field Dark Ace and East Hampton rate the dangers, along with the frustrating Cradle Of Love, who gets a sizeable weight concession from those rivals here.

Newcastle

12.45: Jeteye

Having run a sound race when second to a subsequent winner over course and distance last time, Jeteye is taken to win his second race of the season. Jimli's Island and You Some Girl should also run well.

Punchestown

12.15: General Hubble

Not the most appealing contest. Bondi Beach Boy put in a good effort on his chasing debut at Sligo last month, while Bearwithmenow will go close if reproducing his run at Fairyhouse last week. Preference though is for  General Hubble just in front of Bearwithmenow at Fairyhouse before readily landing a handicap at the same venue on Tuesday with a fair bit in hand. The mandatory penalty might not stop him.

Southwell

3.18: Toonagh Warrior

Front-runner Barrons Land has enjoyed a productive spell for Donald McCain since the spring and it will be interesting to see whether she can continue the good work for her new stable but this can go to Toonagh Warrior, who shaped well over 2m here on his recent seasonal debut, has slipped to a good mark and might be boosted by the addition of headgear. Last-time-out winner Thankyourluckystar is next on the list.

Wolverhampton

7.30: Cerulean Summer

The way she won here last time suggests that Cerulean Summer remains on the up and she is taken to record another course-and-distance success at the main expense of Port Noir, who may be able to get closer. Mykonos St John and Balqaa both make some appeal for each-way players.
