Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Friday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Ayr

4.15: The Ridler

The 2022 Norfolk Stakes winner The Ridler (nap) is 0-13 subsequently and nothing like the same force, but he's handicapped accordingly and there have been promising signs in recent months. He earns the vote ahead of the 3yo Moyola, who should have this run to suit, while Dicko The Legend won a big-field handicap at York in July and is next on the list. Trilby and Rock Melody are others to consider, while Eternal Sunshine is a filly on the up (declared 3.12 here yesterday).

Downpatrick

5.35: Dippedinmoonlight

Runner-up to a good yardstick in a Down Royal winners' event, wide-margin point winner Dippedinmoonlight (nap) will be hard to beat. Lord Ffrench has a clear edge over Diamond Tipp on running at Cork but John McConnell's filly has finished second twice in the interim, and there may not be much between the pair now.

Dundalk

7.30: Step To Somewhere

After a fine handicap debut at Clonmel over a furlong shorter, Step To Somewhere (nap) looks ready to go one better over a trip which should suit. Tipperary 1m1f winner Special Angel has prospects of staying this trip but is up 7lb. Hurricane Helen and Explorers Way can run well.

Kempton

6.45: Cognisance

D Flawless is interesting back on the AW, while Upscale (second choice) did well to make up ground when winning a slowly run C&D event last month. Cognisance (nap) has looked promising in both her starts though and she still looked green when winning here 23 days ago. She can maintain her unbeaten record.

Newbury

5.15: Shamran

Most have each-way claims but the winner may come from the less exposed 3yos, with Shamran (nap) preferred given the style of his 1m novice win last time out. Galyx had three races in the spring and that's it, disappointing on the last of those but it would not be a shock if he emerged as a serious contender and he is feared most, ahead of Odin Legacy who was close up on his handicap debut last week.

Newton Abbot

4.55: Wonderful Eagle

This can go to dual course winner Wonderful Eagle (nap), who is 2lb lower than when fourth in a strong Cheltenham handicap last November and reverts to hurdling after a very creditable Flat win last month. Melton Mossy competes from 4lb out of the weights but he might have more improvement to come and is very unexposed over this sort of trip. Finisk River and Onemorefortheroad should also feature.
