Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Friday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Ascot

2.05: Master Chewy

Class act MASTER CHEWY went up only 4lb for nearly winning a Grade 1 when last seen at Aintree and that was no fluke as he might have been placed in the Arkle had he not fallen two out. Saint Segal has a lot in his favour should he come on for his run at Chepstow and, when Venetia Williams has had two winners and a second in this race since 2013, there's every chance that last season's sharp improver Martator will be ready to do himself justice.

Ayr

1.58: Ottizzini

2022 and 2023 winners Wakool and Glinger Flame now have something to prove after poor runs on their most recent outings, although Wakool would be dangerous if wind surgery has had a positive effect. Faithfulflyer (second choice) and Shoeshine Boy arrive in good heart, but the most appealing option is OTTIZZINI who had some solid form in the first half of the year, including over course and distance, and may still have untapped potential.

Down Royal

12.25: Prairie Angel

Gordon Elliott has won six of the last nine runnings of this race so his representative Lakota Blue, a Flat winner in France, has to be given the utmost respect. However, Joseph O'Brien has a strong hand here with a pair who have previous hurdling experience, the winner PRAIRIE ANGEL preferred to the unlucky Cork third Janes Harbour. Slurricane looks next best.

Newmarket

4.00: Madame De Sevigne

Hodler has been placed in the last two runnings of this race and looks nailed on to go well again, but he is not the only one who acts well here and MADAME DE SEVIGNE gave the impression she could have a little more to come when winning over course and distance in October. Marlay Park has also run well in this race before but he has gone quiet of late and Tennessee Gold and Powdering can be bigger dangers.

Southwell

6.50: Rousing Encore

Jubilee Walk was unable to justify favouritism at Royal Ascot but he wasn't beaten far and this is less demanding. He's a strong contender, while a repeat of any of King's Lynn's three all-weather runs would see him bang there and he's second choice. ROUSING ENCORE is tackling stronger opposition today than when creating a positive impression at Ayr three weeks ago but the manner of that victory, allied to the high level of achievement in his youth, offers hope that he can deal with a small rise in the weights. We Never Stop isn't a model of consistency but he could run better today.

Wetherby

3.32: Goblet Of Fire

The Nicky Henderson-trained four-year-old GOBLET OF FIRE was a smooth winner at Southwell recently and could still be ahead of the handicapper. The unexposed Spirits Bay may be the main danger for the in-form Nigel Twiston-Davies, with recent course-and-distance runner-up Williethebuilder another strong contender.
