Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Monday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Plumpton

3.25: Birdman Bob

A competitive handicap. Birdman Bob runs his best races here, has gone well fresh before and the booking of Sean Bowen looks a statement of intent. Saligo Bay is likely to run well with Freddie Mitchell taking away 5lb and others to bear in mind are Lady Caro and Invictus De Brion.

Gowran

2.30: Light As Air

Viking Invasion has much the best form but he failed to improve for blinkers last time and ready preference is for likely improver Light As Air. He endured a wide trip and was patently in need of the experience when third at Navan and he's still in next week's Group 1 at Doncaster. Enziya is the newcomer to note in the betting.

Bath

5.15: Platinum Prince

Top of the list is Platinum Prince, who sprung a surprise when forging clear from out of the weights on heavy ground at Goodwod last Sunday. He's 2lb lower under a penalty here and has strong claims if he can repeat that latest form. Marchetti, who has finished runner-up in her last four starts, is feared most ahead Dourado and Galactic Glow.

Pontefract

3.45: Sophia's Starlight

Topweight Sophia's Starlight returned to form with a game win at Newmarket last month and can follow up off 2lb higher. Alcazan has won three times this year and may be the chief danger ahead of soft-ground course-and-distance winner Thursday's Child. The drop back in trip could be a plus for the lightly raced Haggas three-year-old The Eyes Have It.

4.05: Pay Attention

Pay particular attention to Pay Attention, whose sole all-weather attempt resulted in a promising effort behind two useful colts (including the Gimcrack winner) and a subsequent nursery scorer. The selection is very interesting off a mark of just 64 returned to this sphere. Sybaris Jewel, who ran well upped to a mile last time, is second choice ahead of Hippocratic Oath, who is the only previous winner in the field. Several of the others may be capable of improvement.

7.00: Pals Battalion

This looks a good opportunity for Pals Battalion to follow up his win over this course and distance last Monday when the first-time visor did the trick. Gundogan has been running consistently well and although becoming expensive to follow he looks to be the main danger. Gay Kelleway has two runners who can be fancied and her better chance is with Court Drive who can run well given a clear run.
