Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Clonmel

6.45: Jabbar

Jack Cleary's 7lb claim should be a big help to the improving Jabbar in his bid to supplement a recent Killarney win. Bumper and chase winner The Banger Doyle rates a big danger, and New Year Honours is another with a definite chance. Alan Sweetman

Haydock

4.50: Naaey

The Gosden-trained Naaey looked a lightly raced 4yo to follow when winning with something to spare at Doncaster last month and can defy a 6lb rise. Elladonna is another filly who is firmly on the up and is feared most in her hat-trick bid. The 3yos Zenjabeela and Warda Jamila are other likely dangers. Ben Hutton

Lingfield

4.32: Surrey Fire

The step back up to 1m4f should suit the lightly raced Surrey Fire, who is out of the yard's Cesarewitch (2m2f) winner Sweet Selection, and he's tipped to progress past some more exposed rivals. A 6lb rise since running in a Listed race won't help Expert Witness, while the sprint-bred Aviemore has to prove his stamina upped from 1m2f. Graignes is worth a look among the likely bigger prices though and he is second on the list. Graham Wheldon

Newbury

5.40: The Glen Rovers

Boy George goes for a hat-trick and may well succeed but there's a possible marked improver among his rivals. The Glen Rovers has not proved himself on turf but he's had only two turf races, showing promise on the second occasion, and the way in which he justified favouritism in a 1m2f AW contest on his handicap debut last time out suggested that further improvement would be forthcoming over this longer trip. Salisbury

2.20: Edvard Grieg

Having posted an improved effort at Nottingham on his debut for Dylan Cunha, Edvard Grieg could well take another step forward and get off the mark. Double Red, who may show the benefit of this drop in class with headgear fitted, is second choice ahead of Finn Russell who won his most recent Flat start. Darysina Gold has possibilities granted fast ground, while Lzaz could be involved now handicapping. Steve Boow

Wolverhampton

8.30: Carey Street

There still looks to be a bigger effort in Mhajim, though it may not come here with the outside stall far from ideal. High Court Judge could go well, while it will be interesting to see if the return here brings about a resurgence with Busby (4-7 over C&D). Bakersboy and Carey Street were both successful at 0-55 level the last time they appeared at this venue and preference is for the latter, who ran his best race since joining Tony Carroll when fourth at Windsor last time.
