Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Friday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Ascot

4.45: Awaal

This is a return to slightly calmer waters for AWAAL, who has been a regular in major handicaps. He's well up to winning this contest and gets the vote ahead of Classic, who warrants respect off his current mark. Bennetot and Tempus hold solid claims on recent form, while Navagio is interesting back from a break.

Bangor

5.05: Got Grey

Footloose Man escapes a penalty for last week's breakthrough win at Fontwell and is officially further ahead of the handicapper than recent Stratford winner GOT GREY. However, Dan Skelton's runner seemed to have a considerable amount left in the tank on that stable debut and could still have significant further improvement to come for his new trainer. Motazzen and Northern Rose may fare best of the others.

Down Royal

6.40: Explorers Way

A course and distance winner in June, EXPLORERS WAY has lost little caste in defeat since and can get back to winning ways. French Company, back down in grade after a fine run at the Curragh, looks a big threat and Leopardstown runner-up Arch Enemy is another major player.

Haydock

1.25: Papagei

There are several possible improvers among the 3yos, with PAPAGEI selected following his impressive win from off the pace when upped to this trip last time out. Minstrel Knight ran well on Wednesday and has a good shout judged on that performance. Scottish Reel is a dark horse to keep a close eye on, while Aztec Sun's three qualifying runs were for Joseph O'Brien in Ireland.

Kempton

6.30: Afentiko

Having proved consistent and beaten all bar a Gosden newcomer over C&D most recently, AFENTIKO holds particularly strong claims. Fellow nursery debutants Footwork (second choice) and War Howl are respected. The other runners have something to prove in this scenario.

Kilbeggan

5.10: Pray Tell

Quite a weak contest. High City Roller is lightly raced and should go well if he's on song, as should Next Week after a good run here last time. The long absent Tom Sarah Evelyn and the unexposed Truly Elegant are also of interest. Despite the drop back in trip, this looks a really good opportunity for PRAY TELL with some very solid staying maiden hurdle form to his credit.
