Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Saturday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Ascot

3.55: Calandagan

Being top on the figures and possibly capable of better still, Calandagan (nap) is taken to come out best in an engrossing clash with the similarly progressive Economics, who should put up a big fight provided he's effective back on the forecast softer ground. Solid contenders Los Angeles and King's Gambit are likely to perform well, while Iresine brings an impressive strike-rate.

4.45: Vintage Clarets

Last year's winner Vintage Clarets (nap) looks primed for another bold bid in this race. Recent York first and third Vince L'Amour (second choice) and Wen Moon rate serious dangers.

3.40: Trinity College

Grosvenor Square was impressive when winning this for Aidan O'Brien last season and the yard have solid claims of landing another renewal with Trinity College (nap). He wasn't beaten far in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes last month, slower ground is fine and all of his rivals will need a decent chunk of improvement to get to the level he's already achieved. Joseph O'Brien's first-string, Wemightakedlongway, hasn't done anythnig wrong in her two starts and she could prove best of the rest.

Limerick

3.50: Brilliant Light

Brilliant Light (nap) proved he can go on any ground when an excellent third in a hot Listowel handicap latest. He's effectively 5lb lower here and has major claims back down in trip. Luimneach bounced back to form at Sligo and rates as the main danger, while Slip Jig will be dangerous on her handicap debut if she's fit after a break. Others to consider are Morepowertoya and Lilian Bland.

2.20: Petticoat Lucy

Westerninthepark ran very creditably in a hot handicap hurdle at Sandown in March and looks very interesting on today's stable/chase debut but preference is for Petticoat Lucy (nap), who returned from a layoff with a pretty stylish win at Exeter a year ago and is back down to a good mark for today's reappearance outing. Clondaw Royale is still unexposed over fences and might also feature.

8.30: Renoir

Pysanka has been in good form since returning last month from a break and ought to be a tough nut to crack but this looks good for low-mileage 5yo Renoir (nap), who opened his account with a good C&D win a fortnight ago and has plenty of scope for further progress.
