Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's seven meetings

Saturday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Ascot

4.45: Vintage Clarets

This should be well run and the presence of other speedballs could count against the improving Venture Capital, who has gone from strength to strength since dropping in distance. Jm Jungle (second choice) and last year's one-two Badri and Woolhampton also come right into the reckoning but this prize may well be heading north courtesy of Vintage Clarets (nap). Richard Fahey's 5yo returned to winning ways at Chester last time and a 3lb rise still leaves him attractively handicapped. He's run well here on each of his previous visits, will be suited by the ground and the likely strong pace will play into his hands too.

Curragh

2.15: Firebird

Paddy Twomey's Firebird (nap) was an expensive purchase and she is 5lb better off with Shandy for a head beating when the pair met at Naas in the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at Naas in August. She should prove too strong for her rivals with further improvement likely. Next in line could be Dance Night Andday, who finished off well when winning a premier handicap at Leopardstown last time and she has run well in this grade in the past.

Gowran Park

4.15: Charlie Luciano

Not the easiest of puzzles to solve. Banjaxed has to be of interest after his fine effort at Kilbeggan. Midnight Our Fred is a winner in waiting over fences but he is best over much further than this, he lacks a run and this could be a stepping stone towards a return to Cheltenham. Kilashee is another with claims but the one that appeals most is Charlie Luciano (nap). His latest run at Kilbeggan was encouraging, he likes going right-handed and he has run well here over hurdles before. Rain would bring Palace Rock into the equation.

Newmarket

2.40: See The Fire

A fascinating Sun Chariot may well go to the upwardly mobile See The Fire (nap), who arrives after a narrow second in the Nassau and a convincing success against male rivals in the Strensall. She was well beaten behind Elmalka in the 1,000 Guineas in the spring but has shown the stronger form since. Tamfana, arguably unlucky in the Guineas, was the clearcut winner of a Sandown Group 3 last time and may prove the main danger. Last year's easy winner Inspiral and her stablemate Nashwa have a bit to prove after several subdued performances but would be strong contenders if rediscovering their spark.

Redcar

4.30: Cruyff Turn

Tim Easterby has won five of the last eight renewals and he may well be able to land this prize again with Cruyff Turn (nap), who has a record of 3-5 at this track and put in a dominant display off a reduced mark at Thirsk last time. Second choice is the progressive 3yo Naepoint, who has won two of his three handicaps and his latest success was over C&D. The admirable veteran Danielsflyer is respected back up in trip, while the other on the shortlist in this competitive race is Empire Of Light.

4.05: Cymbidium

This return to 1m looks sure to suit Cymbidium (nap) much better than the 7f of her latest race, so she can resume her progress to resume winning ways if she takes to this new surface. While nearly all the others have realistic each-way claims, Wiltshire Lad is feared most with his step up in trip, wearing first-time headgear on his nursery and AW debut.

Wolverhampton

8.00: Easy Dancer

The obvious starting point here is Nicky Henderson's Goblet Of Fire, bidding for four AW wins on the bounce. However, preference is for Easy Dancer (nap), who has fewer miles on the clock and is 1-1 over C&D. If Laser Focus proves as effective on AW as turf, he'll be a danger as well, while Raintown arrives in form and should not be far away.
