Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's seven meetings

Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Bellewstown

4.15: Poetic Sound

Not the easiest of races to assess. Westo is the best treated by the race conditions but this test may be on the sharp side for him. Sea Eagle has to carry a lot of weight and has stamina to prove, as does the out of form Chantilly. Akecheta is also untried at this trip so it might be worth taking a chance on the unexposed POETIC SOUND. He won well over this trip on testing ground despite showing signs of greenness at Roscommon and there could still be plenty more to come.

Chelmsford

8.30: Crocodile Power

Ten Club did really well to peg back the long-time leader at Kempton last week but a penalty leaves him 3lb wrong. Epic Express (second choice) could revive after a wind op and a break, while Mokaatil and Unico are also likely to be in the shake-up. CROCODILE POWER comes here at the top of his game though and is taken to complete the hat-trick.

Clonmel

5.25: Prove Yourself

Over this trip, PROVE YOURSELF is preferred to Artic Lane in the clash of the recent Listowel runners-up. Mark Fahey's Flat-bred was notably well backed on his return from a year off and can see off his main rival who has shown good form over 2m4f.

Newcastle

7.10: Profit Street

There are a few lurkers in here but the three with the most pressing claims look to be King's School, Mereside Madness and PROFIT STREET. The selection has done precious little wrong in three runs here and his course-and-distance win in August suggests this mark should still be well within range.

Warwick

3.30: Long Draw

Handicap debutants Guard The Moon and Panhandle Slim (preferred in that order) may still have potential but LONG DRAW looked unlucky not to double his hurdling tally at Worcester last month, where a penultimate-flight jumping error cost him significant momentum, and he is taken to overcome a 6lb rise here. Harjo and Gris Majeur are two others to consider.

Salisbury

4.50: Small Fry

Having won three of his last four starts, SMALL FRY rather stands out. The last two of those wins were over 1m4f on soft and 1m6f on good to soft, well on top both times, so there's a good chance that this improving three-year-old will prove effective under today's conditions. The chance that St Pancras, a more lightly raced three-year-old, can resume his improvement puts him second on the list.

Southwell

5.10: I'm On My Way

Shibuya Song left her previous efforts behind when winning at Worcester and is not taken on lightly but there could be more to come from I'M ON MY WAY who finished last season on the up and goes well fresh. The Wise Traveller and Fine By Me are others with claims.
