Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's seven meetings

Saturday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Ascot

3.55: Rohaan

Tacarib Bay has had a mostly troubled year but he ran a stormer in his first 6f turf handicap at Goodwood and there shouldn't be a problem with the return to Ascot as he wasn't beaten far in a top 7f handicap here last year. However, those old diehards Fresh and Rohaan are such big players on this course and it's the latter who makes most appeal over this trip now with this week's rain in his favour. Tacarib Bay can be next best.

Haydock

2.25: Oneforthegutter

While there are plausible options from top to bottom on this card, preference is for Oneforthegutter following his bold show in the Ebor, which was even more competitive. Epic Poet finished on his heels in that York race two weeks ago, coming from a good deal further back, which he will probably attempt again but he is second on the list. Ian Williams has a strong hand with Dancing In Paris joining the selection, while Knightswood caught all the eyes with the trouble in running he encountered at Glorious Goodwood but his supporters may have to say a few prayers again given that he is in stall one. Waxing Gibbous may bring the most potential and Grand Alliance, who won first time out last term, is dropped from Group races.

Kempton

3.15: Kilt

He lacks experience but if there's one here who could be well ahead of its mark it is Kilt. Although beaten favourite on his Haydock handicap debut, he shaped promisingly in second and that first exposure to a handicap should hold him in good stead now. Longlai (second choice) saw off last week's Racing League winner Noodle Mission at Wolverhampton last time and should go well on the hat-trick bid. Talis Evolvere's strong all-weather record earns him a place on the shortlist, while the progress Whitcombe Rockstar has made this year makes him impossible to rule out even though he occupies the outside stall.

Navan

2.15: Agouti Bear

The best of the form here is quite strong. On her stable debut, Stella Alpina should be capable of a big run, as should Muine Mor after a promising debut, while the drop back to this trip might well suit Moonhall Church. Bad Timing looks the best of the newcomers, but a confident selection goes to Agouti Bear after a highly promising Curragh debut. She will not need to improve much.

Stratford

5.20: Begin The Luck

This can go to class-dropper Begin The Luck, who chased home a progressive rival on his latest visit to Stratford in June. The King Of May remains very well handicapped on old form but it's hard to predict whether he'll build upon his Cartmel win in July and a bigger threat to the selection could come from front-runner Isholo Du Vivien, who might still have untapped potential over this sort of trip.

Thirsk

4.25: Triumph Of Peace

Although this is her stiffest test yet, it's hard to get away from Triumph Of Peace, a progressive sort who beat a subsequent winner at Salisbury last time. There's probably a fair bit more to come now she's handicapping and she's taken to beat Rajindri and Get Jiggy With It.

Wolverhampton

6.30: Solar Biricz

Topweight Solar Biricz won in fine style at Musselburgh recently and is taken to defy a 10lb rise. Premium Pass has run pretty well in defeat the last twice and is second choice ahead of Dawn Awakening, with whom she's closely matched.
