Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's seven meetings

Saturday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Ayr

3.35: Room Service

Ramazan has looked a strong candidate for this race all year and while a 3lb rise for finishing second at Ripon last month isn't ideal, he still looks sure to make a bold bid. His stablemate Strike Red, who ran so well at the Ebor meeting, would have been even higher on the shortlist had he not failed to fire at this meeting twice previously. There hasn't been a Scottish-trained winner of the race since 1975 but Jim Goldie saddles two major contenders in Jordan Electrics and American Affair (second choice), both of whom have made giant strides this year while showing no sign of their progress coming to a halt. Rohaan and Mostabshir also have claims but the dark horse in the field is ROOM SERVICE. His two standout efforts have come on soft ground but he's shown clear promise on a sound surface and he was well on top at the finish when winning at Pontefract in July. This test should suit him well, he's had a wind op since last in action and he can provide Kevin Ryan with a sixth Ayr Gold Cup.

Newbury

2.05: Ithaca's Arrow

There was rain here on Friday and more is forecast today. On soft or heavy ground, the best option may well be ITHACA'S ARROW, who impressed at Chester last Saturday, but that superb veteran Not So Sleepy could also come to the fore. Waxing Gibbous has more to prove away from good ground but this progressive sort looks set to go very well otherwise, while Lieber Power is going great guns and would seemingly be fine on good to soft. Kotari is another one to note.

Newmarket

3.55: Tactician

Andrew Balding and Hayley Turner combined to win this with a 3yo last year and can repeat the feat with TACTICIAN, who promises to relish this increased stamina test. Trooper Bisdee has been given a bit time since finishing a well-beaten favourite in the Northumberland Plate in June and can bounce back to provide the chief threat, ahead of Glorious Goodwood runner-up Premiere Ligne.

Chester

5.20: Bushfire

Most of these have something to prove on one count or another but BUSHFIRE has finished placed in his last two runs, including a strong-finishing second at Carlisle last time behind a rival who dominated. He remains well treated on his Southwell win last autumn and gets the vote on this step back up in trip. 3yo Mr Swivell is open to more progress on his return to 1m2f and he's feared most ahead of Qitaal, who looks interesting on his drop back in trip and grade.

Navan

5.30: Question Of Class

Too free when tried in blinkers at the Galway festival, QUESTION OF CLASS (nap) goes without any aids here and has been freshened up. The pick of her earlier form on lively ground gives here a decent chance and the daughter of Camelot should stay if settling okay. El Regalo made a good start in handicaps when fifth over 1m4f at Roscommon and is down in grade, while Waystar is entitled to come on from her strong-finishing fifth at Down Royal which was on the back of a lay-off.

Gowran

5.40: Rahmi

The manner of Kelbelle's Bellewstown win was impressive but she's down in trip on faster ground in a much tougher race, so RAHMI (nap) is preferred. He's proven at this distance, he has top-notch handicap form in the book and he's the best treated by the conditions of this race.

Wolverhampton

7.30: Charlotte's Web

Triple course winners Master Of Combat and Precision Storm return to Tapeta on fair marks after sketchy spells on turf and both ought to fare better. Yeoman holds obvious claims as long as his stamina holds, but the vote goes to CHARLOTTE'S WEB, who caught the eye in a C&D novice last month before failing to stay 1m2f on soft ground next time.
