Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's seven meetings

Saturday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Chelmsford

5.20: Baraq

Sir Mark Prescott's Baraq has been a different proposition since being allowed to stride on and can complete a quick hat-trick. King Of Charm arrives in form and is second choice ahead of Charming Whisper.

Chepstow

3.20: Doyen Quest

Dan Skelton's progressive 6yo Doyen Quest produced a good late surge to hit the front in a slowly run race at Cheltenham in the spring and is probably still well handicapped after a 3lb rise. He remains unexposed over this sort of trip and gets the verdict ahead of Jipcot, who ran a big race when placed off today's mark in the Imperial Cup at Sandown in March. Tune In A Box has been treated very sternly by the handicapper for his Punchestown festival romp but he might still be improving. Act Of Authority and Crebilly are others to consider.

Fairyhouse

1.40: Blacksmiths Forge

The bar isn't set high at all in this maiden. Blacksmiths Forge just about boasts the most compelling form credentials and she's looking consistent. Kilbarry Ce Ce ran a positive first race and she's bred for today's extra yardage. Lady Nightingale and Whitewinewednesday are preferred of the remainder.

Hexham

1.55: Monochromix

An interesting race in which the vote goes to Lucinda Russell's Monochromix, who is unexposed over fences and pulled clear with a major improver in a higher grade at Carlisle in his final run last season. Coqolino is a big player if he can repeat the form of his second at Cartmel in August, while Artic Row still has potential as a chaser and the same comment applies to dual C&D winner Backbyjet, who could resume his progress back in trip after a break. Others to consider are Hello Judge and Ribeye.

Naas

2.35: Uncanny

Ocean Manifest needs to bounce back from a poor run at Leopardstown but a repeat of his debut run at Fairyhouse would see him bang there. However, if Uncanny is fit and well after a break, she has the best form in the book and will take all the beating in an ordinary maiden. Others to note are Sacred Oath who is a big player if she can handle the drop in trip, and Auburn Avenue, who will be doing her best work at the finish.

Newmarket

3.40: Jacovec Cavern

Willie Mullins has saddled potent challengers for the top Flat handicaps from all sorts of corners of his yard and Sea Of Sands grabbed the eye when winning so smoothly over hurdles on his stable debut. He has to be shortlisted but, as was the case in this race last year, the Mullins to come out on top may well be Emmet, who again saddles last year's hero The Shunter but can strike this time with Jacovec Cavern. The selection returned from a long layoff to make his own highly promising stable debut on the Flat at Galway. Also from Ireland, Reverend Hubert and Sixandahalf make significant appeal, while the best of the British may be Manxman and Premiere Ligne.

York

2.40: Strike Red

This is typically competitive but the eye is drawn to the 2022 winner Strike Red, who went close off this mark at the Ebor meeting and will not be inconvenienced in the slightest by today's softer ground. He looks a strong contender. Like the selection, Room Service finished out of the money in the Ayr Gold Cup, but the rain this week will have aided his cause and he's seen as the main danger, with Archduke Ferdinand, Eye Of Dubai and Northern Spirit respected near the foot of the weights. King's Lynn has been knocking at the door for a while and makes each-way appeal in first-time cheekpieces.
