Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's five meetings

Wednesday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team . . .

Dundalk

5.15: Picpoul

Runner-up over a slightly shorter trip here last time, Picpoul can record a fourth course success, and third over this trip, for her locally-based trainer. Likely dangers are Chopsticks, hampered when an unplaced favourite here in August, and Imperial Miss who shaped promisingly on her only previous start on this surface. Numidia and Glyde Court have useful AW form too.

Fakenham

2.20: Instant Gambler

This doesn't look the strongest of races and Instant Gambler is taken to make it five out of five over fences despite his 7lb penalty for last week's Fontwell win. Chasing newcomer Awesome Foursome is another to consider.

Kempton

7.30: Blue Collar Lad

The selection is Blue Collar Lad, who has done very well since joining Daniel Steele and can add to his win at Chelmsford last month. Thunderous Love is an interesting contender back up to 7f and is second choice ahead of Heerathetrack. Adace, Diamondsinthesand and South Dakota Sioux all arrive in good form, while Believe It is one to watch in the betting off a lowly opening mark.

Newton Abbot

3.00: Major Fortune

Dan Skelton's Major Fortune was a massive improver last season in handicaps and, given the ground conditions, today's drop in trip might not be too troublesome. Royal Mer seems a better horse now than when last seen over hurdles and he too will approve of the ground. Wewillgowithplanb should run better than he did in a stronger race at Ffos Las.

Nottingham

3.08: Makanah

A 0-95 in name only and it could be that the veteran Makanah holds a class advantage over his rivals. His latest second at Leicester was a fine effort and he can prove too strong for Blind Beggar, Fantasy Master and Hyperfocus.
