Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's five meetings

Friday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Doncaster

2.40: Noble Anthem

This can go to Noble Anthem (nap), who was a pretty stylish winner at Sedgefield in early October and could still have a lot more to offer over fences. The form of his close third at Cheltenham two starts ago should not be taken at face value but his existing handicap mark was protected in that race, and his subsequent Grade 2 defeat can be overlooked. Davidoc ran well on his recent chasing debut and is second choice but good cases can also be made for No Risk With Lou, Grain d'Oudairies and Alien Storm.

Dundalk

7.30: Cross Border

Not many of these come into the race in form. One that definitely does is top-weight Cross Border (nap), who has lots of tactical speed and the drop back to 5f should not be an issue. The one to give him most trouble is the unexposed Carrigans Grove who caught the eye here last time.

Musselburgh

1.45: Hapy La Vie

Return Fire has come back all the better for his summer break and is still well handicapped despite winning at Hexham recently. He does like that track, though, and there's no guarantee he'll be as effective on this one. Hapy La Vie (nap) still has time on his side and his layoff appears to have done him no harm judged on his willing display over hurdles at Ayr. He should still have a bit more to come over fences. Defence Witness is preferred of the other four.

Newbury

3.40: Woodie Flash

Hermino AA and Largy Poet ended their latest campaigns with very useful efforts and with further improvement on the cards this winter they both have sound claims, as does Madaket. However, Woodie Flash (nap) looked all the better for his summer break when giving a sweet display to win at Ffos Las recently and he looks set fair to go on from that. Hermino AA can be the main danger ahead of Madaket although Astronomic View and Chantry House are in the mix, too.

Thurles

3.20: Willywampus

Willywampus (nap) was heavily supported in the betting when an eyecatching fourth here after a break and could be poised to strike. Dangers include Down Around who looks ahead of his mark and Klassman down at the foot of the weights.
