Kempton's opener (1.15) is one of the tougher races for Placepot punters, but we can afford a few selections as there are bankers later on.

The key to Doyen Quest may well be the ground as he's 2-2 on a good surface. He won over 3m at Cheltenham earlier in the season, but hasn't quite been getting home lately on a softer surface and he should run a sound race back at 2m5f.

Olly Murphy has been enjoying his best season and Pyramid Place, an easy winner here in November, should go well, too. He carries 12st, but has Lewis Saunders on to reduce the burden by 7lb and he has an impressive 32 per cent strike-rate for the yard (13-41).

Malaita ran well last month and has run many of his best races under Charlie Deutsch, who is back on board, so he is the third selection.

There are only six in the next (1.50), but it's arguably a match between Rubaud and Imperial Saint, with the former the pick given his excellent course form.

Similarly, Mondo Man looks to have the best form in a weak-looking Adonis (2.25), and he should step up on his Ascot second to Lulamba if he's only half as keen as he was there.

There's a bit more depth to the Dovecote (3.00), but Miami Magic has the best form on his Formby second to Potters Charm, while I'd expect fourth-placed Celtic Dino to get a lot closer on this better ground.

In the featured big handicap chase (3.35), Hyland, Golden Son and Our Power, who won this race two years ago and has put in two fine efforts at Cheltenham this season, should give us a strong hand.

That just leaves the 2m4½f handicap chase (4.10) in which course specialist Solo is confidently expected to figure. The improving Keep Running, who can find more again back on a right-handed track, is the one to back him up.
