Kempton Placepot picks: Keith Melrose with his selections for a £50,000 guaranteed pool

Betting editor

Kempton's card, with a guaranteed £50,000 Placepot pool, is of high quality for a midweek all-weather card but you wouldn't know it from the opener (5.00). Take two in this to get through. Galactic Glow was a cut above this level in the autumn and has hinted at being in form over hurdles as recently as November. Likewise Sneaky Blinder ran a solid race at Wolverhampton around then.

The 5.30 is easier, with the well-drawn Transparent having little incentive to not kick on after a promising debut.

New Charter and Desert Champion fill the spots in the next (6.00), which isn't a banker race with well-bred debutant Berkshire Whisper lurking.

Tyger Bay and Hierarchy make sense as Placepot picks in the 6.30, even though I've tipped against them with more of an all-or-nothing selection.

With the last leg being a dreaded four-runner affair in which we are bound to pick them all (Beccali, Molveno, Hippocratic Oath and Northwest Passage) in the hope of a boilover, bank in the 7.00 on the consistent course-and-distance winner Monopolise.
