'I've always thought he was going to make a smashing chaser' - David Jennings with his views on a superb Saturday

What's the big story?

There are quite a few stories knocking around today, easily enough to fill a paper twice over. The Coral Challow Novices' Hurdle (2.55) at Newbury is a corker, but the front page splash has to be the Savills Chase (2.35) at Leopardstown.

It is the second instalment of Galopin Des Champs v Fact To File, and if it is even half as good as the first episode, we are in for a real treat.

Galopin Des Champs v Fact To File – who wins?

The heart says Galopin Des Champs, but the head screams Galopin Des Champs, too. This is the classroom where he bullies everyone every day of the week, so the rest of the students should be very scared going to the tape at Leopardstown.

What's the bet of the day?

I've always thought Inthewaterside was going to make a smashing chaser, so he gets the nod on his debut over fences in the 2m6½f novice handicap chase (3.35), which closes Newbury's Challow card.

He's the finest stamp of a horse you could wish to see, and the cobwebs have already been blown away in a spin over hurdles. Take 3-1, or 100-30 if it's available; that's serious value.

And the lay of the day?

The New Lion has roared every step of the way, but he didn't blow me away on his most recent outing and I genuinely cannot believe Regent's Stroll is not favourite to give Paul Nicholls five in a row in the Challow (2.55). I think this guy is better than Nicholls' last four winners: Bravemansgame, Stage Star, Hermes Allen and Captain Teague.

The best bet at each of the seven meetings?

Okay, here goes: Bob Olinger at Leopardstown (2.00); Inthewaterside at Newbury (3.35); Everyonesacritic at Leicester (1.55); Got Your Back at Catterick (3.20); Shantreusse at Limerick (2.15); Harry Did at Newcastle (5.30); and Rock N Roll Rocket at Southwell (4.45).
