'I'll be having some of the 17-2 on offer' - David Jennings answers the big questions on a super Saturday

What's the big story?

The Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup (3.35), one of the sprinting showpieces of the season, has a maximum field of 25 and plenty of very familiar faces in there. The likes of Rohann and Lethal Levi, Northern Express, Strike Red and Korker seem to have been around forever.

The betting has been headed for the last couple of days by American Affair, last Saturday's Portland hero at Donny. He is operating at the peak of his powers right now and Mulrennan and Goldie at Ayr are like Keegan and Toshack used to be at Anfield. An unstoppable combo.

So, who wins the Ayr Gold Cup (3.35)?

If it had rained and he'd been drawn higher, I would have been all over Aleezdancer. If he runs, 25-1 is still a whopping price and he's very dangerous indeed.

But my vote goes to Mostabshir. The Stewards' Cup was his first go over six furlongs and it would have taught him a hell of a lot. He's an unexposed sprinter who is well handicapped on old form and has a perfect draw. That 14-1 is decent value, folks.

And, what about the Ayr Silver Cup (2.25)?

Bless me father for I have sinned, but it's got to be Summerghand.

In my defence, in his previous 104 runs I have never once tipped him or backed him. I shall be doing both this time. Just take a look at those last 100 yards at the Curragh. The lovable, old rogue is ready to strike again.

The trip, the track, the draw and the ground are just about perfect for the remarkable sprinting servant and I'll be having some of the 17-2 on offer with William Hill.

What's the bet of the day?

Let's go to Navan for the 5f handicap (2.35) in which Dontspoilasale looks a bargain.

He never really looked in his comfort zone on the beach at Laytown, yet wasn't beaten far in the end and there have been positives in both of his outings for Ado McGuinness. He might just be a class above this lot. Don't forget he was rated 91 not so long ago, and he's down to 74 now.

Who's the lay of the day?

Shadow Of Light in the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (3.15) at Newbury. Powerful Glory ought to be able to take care of him on the evidence of what I saw at Pontefract.

What's the best piece of punting advice for Saturday?

Have a small stakes each-way Yankee with Chillingham (2.05 Newbury), Dontspoilasale (2.35 Navan), Summerghand (2.25 Ayr) and Amphius (5.00 Newbury).
