Hong Kong racing tips: Jim McGrath with three selections at Sha Tin on Wednesday

Galvanic
1.45 Sha Tin
2pts win

Jolly Companion
2.45 Sha Tin
2pts win

Packing Bole
3.50 Sha Tin
2pts win

When Caspar Fownes books Hugh Bowman for the first time for any of his established campaigners, it is time to take notice, which is exactly the case with Galvanic in the Class 4 1m½f handicap (1.45) on an all-weather card at Sha Tin on Wednesday.

It is also significant the five-year-old has run only twice on the dirt track in 21 starts for a second and a win. With a drop in grade, he is set to register his first win since April, with the assistance of the former Sydney champion.

David Hayes has his team in terrific form early this season, so much so that he is heading the championship with 15 wins, two clear of nearest rival Pierre Ng, and that makes the exposed Snowalot an interesting runner, particularly with Zac Purton renewing his association with the seven-year-old. He is the danger to Galvanic.

Britney Wong is proving outstanding value for her 10lb claim and is set for a follow up win aboard Jolly Companion in the Class 4 6f handicap (2.45). In her first local season, Wong already has three wins to her credit at a strike rate of 8.57 per cent and it is clear horses run for her.

Jolly Companion has gone up 7lb in the ratings for a comfortable victory on her last start under the apprentice and he will have benefited from the outing. Back on a surface he likes, the gelding can start fulfilling the promise he showed in two wins in Australia for trainer Greg Eurell.

Bowman takes the ride on the Danny Shum-trained Lightning Bolt, who has not won on the dirt in nearly two years but he is now on a mark 14lb lower, which in theory gives him a chance in an open race.

Shum saddles the interesting Packing Bole in the finale, the Class 3 6f handicap (3.50), and if the gelding can recapture his best form, he will be hard to beat, with Jerry Chau’s 2lb claim a positive.

The Deep Field five-year-old has been lightly raced and his 2-7 record suggests an untapped talent. From stall five, he should enjoy a good run throughout.
