Vincent Ho has recaptured his old sparkle in the saddle and looks set to return to centre stage again aboard Chancheng Glory in the Group 3 Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse (8.05) on an attractive ten-race card at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Ho was out of form in the first weeks of the season, almost as if the retirement of his champion partner Golden Sixty had put him off his game. But he turned a corner with the win of Galaxy Patch in the Sha Tin Trophy three weeks ago and hasn’t looked back.

The home-grown talent has fired in eight winners since to place him third in the jockeys’ championship behind Zac Purton and Hugh Bowman, and Chancheng Glory is poised to maintain that impressive strike-rate.

The four-year-old is 7-18 since starting his career in May last year and has run some cracking races, including a second to Helios Express in the Hong Kong Classic Cup, one of only two times he has run over 1m1f, the distance here.

He is by Met Mile winner Mor Spirit, a grandson of Giant’s Causeway, a stallion who has had little impact and who stands for a fee of just US$2,500. However, in Chancheng Glory he has produced a very talented racehorse.

The gelding comes here off the back of an excellent third to Galaxy Patch (ridden by Ho) and Voyage Bubble in the Sha Tin Trophy, which will have put him spot on for this.

The danger is Karma, who runs from out of the handicap but is a real threat provided there is a solid pace, while Beauty Joy is another with claims.

Cody Mo, who has sent out six winners to place him in the middle ranks of the trainers’ standings, can add another to his score when saddling Markwin in the Class 4 7f handicap (7.00).

Markwin, who was purchased at the Hong Kong International Sale this year for around £220,000, is a son of crack sire I Am Invincible and only has to run up to his course-and-distance second last time to win this. Yoda’s Choice, at the bottom of the weights, could represent each-way value.

The John Size-trained Majestic Express is fancied to follow up last month's win from a wide draw in a lower grade in the Class 3 6f handicap (8.40).

The four-year-old has gone up six points in the ratings but this time has the luxury of an inside draw in stall two. Newcomer Packing Turbine is next best.
