'He's one of the best-handicapped horses in training and he's 8-1' - David Jennings answers the key Saturday questions

What's the big story?

This is one of those rare Saturdays when you get the best of both worlds. You can have your cake and eat it too. Don't feel one bit guilty about it either. Stuff your face. It won't be long before Flat racing is confined to sand.

Chepstow stages some seriously competitive jump racing, with the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy (3.20) as the highlight, but most eyes will be drawn to the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes (3.00) at Newmarket, where the absence of The Lion In Winter leaves the way open for a pair of promising Godolphin colts, Shadow Of Light and Ancient Truth, to battle it out to add their name to a roll of honour that features a whole host of talents, including City Of Troy last year.

Who wins the Cesarewitch (3.40)?

Jacovec Cavern could be absolutely anything.

Your guess might be as good as mine, but here's mine for what it's worth. He should have won a handicap at Galway's summer festival and could be chucked in off 83. This is only his second start for the maestro that is Emmet Mullins. The trainer knows what it takes to win it and I have a feeling he is going to go back-to-back, 12 months after The Shunter scored.

And what about the Silver Trophy (3.20) at Chepstow?

If you were to ask me to compile a list of the best-handicapped hurdlers right now, Into The Park would be towards the top off 125. This is a talented young horse for whom the long home straight at Chepstow looks tailor-made. He is still only five and you can forget his final run of last season at Newbury. His mark is just lovely, as is his current price of 8-1.

What's the bet of the day?

You get the impression the Listed Tom Malone Bloodstock Novices' Chase (2.45) at Chepstow has been the early-season aim for Insurrection for absolutely ages, given conditions were always likely to be ideal.

He jumped beautifully when winning a point-to-point for William Harvey by 20 lengths in December 2022 and I have a feeling he will prove way better over fences than he was as a hurdler. He should take the world of beating.

And the lay of the day?

Has Willie Mullins' Sea Of Sands really done enough to deserve quotes of 4-1 in the Cesarewitch?

Yes, he's trained by a God, and, yes, he looked like a God himself at Listowel, but that was a poor race and this will be a completely different kettle of fish. I'd rather be a layer than a backer at those odds.
