James Stevens has fired in a sixth consecutive winning nap and has more selections for the racing on ITV on Saturday
West Country correspondent James Stevens, who has fired in five winning naps in a row courtesy of Bill Joyce (4-6), Non Stop (7-1), Apples Moon (5-2), Javert Allen (9-4) and JPR One (11-4), looks ahead to Wincanton's biggest day of the season and the rest of the ITV action . . .
1.09 Wincanton
BetMGM Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase, 2m4f
James's tip: Killer Kane
Killer Kane's ideal scenario seems to be good ground, a flat, right-handed track and a decent pace to aim at. The trip is a bit on the short side but he's well handicapped off 122 and Joe Tizzard has added first-time blinkers. Callum Pritchard is a conditional to watch this season and his booking is another plus.
1.20 Doncaster
Livescore Bet Wentworth Stakes, Listed, 6f
James's tip: Room Service
Room Service is the one to beat on the form of his close second when backed into favourite for the Coral Sprint Trophy. He produced the quickest time in the final two furlongs when coming from off the pace and this should be run to suit, with Sophia's Starlight and Balmoral Lady expected to set a strong pace.
1.30 Aintree
Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle, 3m1½f
James's tip: Magical King
Stuart Edmunds won this race last season with Gentleman At Arms and I fancy Magical King to follow suit. He's up in trip here but that looks a major plus and, while he lacks the experience of his rivals, he looks thrown in off this mark.
1.45 Wincanton
BetMGM Richard Barber Memorial Mares' Handicap Hurdle, 2m5½f
James's tip: Mermaids Cave
A very tricky race but Mermaids Cave has been in excellent form this season, winning five times, and looks fairly treated after going up only 4lb for a comfortable enough victory at Bangor. Callum Pritchard takes off 7lb and his mount has a solid each-way chance. Larchmont Lass is the one I fear most.
2.05 Aintree
BoyleSports Choose Wisely Handicap Chase, 2m
James's tip: Imperial Saint
This six-year-old should have plenty more to offer and looks the banker of the day. He capitalised on the fall of the leader when winning here 13 days ago but was in contention to win anyway. He looks a standard above these and is the one with the most potential. He's the nap.
2.23 Wincanton
Boodles Rising Stars Novices' Chase, 2m4f
James's tip: Handstands
The ground is a bit of a worry for Handstands but I'm hoping he'll be simply too good. He looked like a top-class prospect when beating some smart rivals in the Sidney Banks Hurdle and if he transfers that ability over fences then he wins. Ben Pauling told me Handstands was working like an "absolute monster" on a recent visit too.
2.40 Aintree
BoyleSports Grand Sefton Handicap Chase, 2m5f
James's tip: Idalko Bihoue
He was an impressive winner at Cheltenham at this time last season and good ground looks important to him. If he's right for his first run this season he can go well at a big price. King Turgeon impressed last time and also has a big chance for David Pipe, who has these National fences at home for schooling.
2.55 Wincanton
BetMGM Elite Hurdle, 1m7f
James's tip: Rubaud
Last season's winner appears the only one in the field who wants this better ground and he comes here after a good comeback win at Kempton. He should have the class to concede the weight.
3.10 Doncaster
Virgin Bet Irish EBF Gillies Fillies' Stakes, 1m2f
James's tip: Diamond Rain
I thought Diamond Rain was destined to be a Group-race performer when winning her first two starts, but that was not the case when she was last in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot in June. She's been off for ages, which is a worry, but this ground will suit and she gets another chance.
3.30 Wincanton
63rd Badger Beer Handicap Chase, 3m1f
James's tip: Forward Plan
The Changing Man is the right favourite and most likely winner, but Forward Plan is each-way value. He's high in the weights but is rock solid in these big handicaps and good ground is perfect for him.
3.45 Doncaster
Virgin Bet November Handicap, 1m4f
James's tip: Valvano
Arc-winning trainer Ralph Beckett can conclude the Flat season on turf with a bang. His three-year-old has the potential to prove miles better than a mark of 97. He has shown glimpses of class this season and will be match-fit after two solid recent runs.
