The Tote’s £50,000 Placepot guarantee is at Haydock on Wednesday and the ability to handle heavy ground will be vital. The opening 3m½f conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle (12.40) kicks things off and it is worth including likely favourite East Street alongside Topkapi Star.

There will be only two places available in the following 2m5½f novice handicap chase (1.10) so include heavy-ground winners Beneficially Yours and Heros De Romay.

Ski Lodge acts on heavy and goes in the 3m½f maiden hurdle (1.40) alongside Carrig Kate, while the 1m7½f introductory hurdle (2.15) looks between Monaco Rules and Royal Infantry.

The 3m1½f veterans’ handicap chase (2.45) is another with only two places on offer, so put in the class act Empire Steel and another of the heavy-ground winners in Up Helly Aa King

A banker will be needed in the 2m3f handicap hurdle (3.18) and maybe Hazy Glen can do the job. He has been placed in four of his last five starts and loves testing ground so looks most solid.
