Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2), 1m7½f

Harry's tip: Sweet William

It has been foolish to oppose Kyprios all year and it may prove so once again here, but Sweet William finally gets to have a crack at him away from quick ground and arrives on the back of a career best in the Doncaster Cup. He's a tricky customer, but he has improved since being fitted with a visor on his last four starts, and I was really taken with how he quickened clear of Trueshan when asked for his effort last time. He's value for more than the length winning margin suggests, as he doesn't do anything once hitting the front, and should better his distant third from last year here.

1.55 Ascot
Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1), 6f

Harry's tip: Montassib

Montassib has thrived since dropping to 6f, looking very much like a Group horse when coming from last to first to claim the Cammidge Trophy on his reappearance in March and emphatically confirming that when landing the Sprint Cup at Haydock when last seen, which was a remarkable effort given the ground would've been far quicker than he would like. He beat loads of these that day, and got the better of Kinross in the Chipchase at Newcastle in June, and could be very hard to beat with the ground in his favour.

Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1), 1m3½f

Harry's tip: Wingspan

Wingspan has posted progressive Racing Post Ratings with each start, latterly going down by just a neck in a 1m2f Group 2 contest at the Curragh having tried to make all. She shapes as if this longer trip will suit and it's interesting that her dam Hydrangea won this race for the yard in 2017 on her first go at 1m4f. She could be a marked improver now up in trip and might be able to steal a march on them from the front under Sean Levey, while getting back on ground softer than good for the first time since winning a heavy-ground maiden in April could be a bonus.

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Group 1), 1m

Harry's tip: Facteur Cheval

Facteur Cheval proved best of the rest behind runaway winner Big Rock in this contest last year and this has likely been the season-long plan to come back here. He bettered all his previous form when getting the better of Namur in the Dubai Turf in March after a break and almost matched that effort on RPRs when last seen finishing a close third behind 2,000 Guineas winner Notable Speech in the Sussex Stakes, a race in which he chased home Paddington 12 months earlier. That was despite not getting his favoured soft ground, which he gets here, and he arrives a fresher horse than most, which could prove to be a big advantage.

3.55 Ascot
Qipco Champion Stakes (Group 1), 1m2f

Harry's tip: Calandagan

Calandagan has been a big improver this season, winning three of his last four starts and posting a better Racing Post Rating with each run. He emphatically backed up a pair of Group 3 wins in the mud at Longchamp when storming six lengths clear in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot before going down by just a length to City Of Troy in the Juddmonte International, a run that can be marked up as he was the only one to make any significant inroads from the back. The latter is arguably stronger form than Economics' Irish Champion win, while his proven ability in heavy ground and at this track give him the nod over that rival.

Harry's tip: Cicero's Gift

Cicero's Gift looked very promising last year, winning a Wolverhampton novice that couldn't have worked out better – runner-up Docklands is now rated 115 – before showing an impressive turn of foot to see off some smart rivals in a conditions event at Goodwood on his next start. He looked like a Group horse in a handicap when winning after a year off at Sandown in July but hasn't gone on since, proving disappointing when getting favoured soft conditions in a French Group 2 two weeks ago. He clearly didn't run to form that day, though, and can be expected to prove a different proposition returned to a handicap off a mark just 2lb higher than his last win.
