Graeme Rodway's play of the day at Kempton

Es Perfecto

12.45 Kempton

The best bet on the card is Es Perfecto, who is fancied to go two better than his third in the opening 2m4½f novice handicap chase (12.45) last year, when he finished among rivals who are now rated between 9lb to 11lb better. The selection is just 3lb higher himself, though.

Es Perfecto went on to finish third behind subsequent Turners runner-up Ginny’s Destiny in a traditionally strong novice handicap at Cheltenham in January before blowing out when 6-5 favourite at Sandown in March. He was beaten 47 lengths there and simply didn’t show up.

However, he was given a summer break and looked at least as good as ever when beating Doctor Ken by a length and a quarter over course and distance on his reappearance last month. He travelled and jumped well that day before finishing off his race nicely late on.

He is up 5lb, but is evidently well handicapped on last year’s form and just loves Kempton.
