Goodwood Placepot picks: Tom Segal with his selections for the £50k guaranteed pool

The standouts in the two juvenile races on the Goodwood card are Qetaifan (2.25) and Castle Gates (4.10) and there's no point being too clever trying to get them to finish out of the places as they both have form on heavy ground. 

Those two are Placepot bankers along with the Sir Mark Prescott-trained Judgementofsolomon (1.50), who has the services of Nico de Boinville in the race restricted to jump jockeys and is another who'll have no problems with the testing conditions.

The other three handicaps need more sorting out but Spanish Star is a dual winner of the 6f handicap (3.00) and there's no obvious reason why he won't run well again. However, he's not getting any younger, so the in-form Wodao goes in as well after his good effort on soft ground at Ascot last time.

Most of the runners in the nursery (3.35) have form in the conditions and it could be that topweight Megalithic is too classy, but he's been gelded since his last run in July and has a bit to prove now. Consequently, it's also worth sticking in Mayday Malone, for whom Oisin Murphy is an interesting booking. 

The mile feature (4.45) sees a return to Goodwood for five-time course winner Rhoscolyn. From only a 2lb higher mark than when successful over course and distance last month, he looks sure to go close. This is probably a better race, so improving three-year-old Dashing Darcey should be considered too.
