Doncaster Placepot tips: Tom Segal's perm for the £100,000 guaranteed pool on the final day of the St Leger meeting

Tipster

With four fiercely competitive handicaps, a wide-open Group race and a race for retired riders, the Doncaster Placepot is going to take some unravelling. In order to keep the perm manageable, it might be worth banking on the in-from Brave Nation in the opening sprint (2.05) given his excellent course record, which consists of three wins and a second from four runs.

Ten Pounds was impressive on the all-weather last time and he might be able to overcome a steep rise in the weights in the 7f handicap (2.40). However, it was a ridiculously slowly run race he won at Newcastle last time and so Thunder Blue goes in as well, as he will appreciate the return to this longer trip.

The other banker is much more risky, but Elim has been a huge eyecatcher a few times this season and she has conditions exactly as she would like them in the Group 3 Sceptre Fillies' Stakes (3.15).

Megan Nicholls looks to have a good chance on the Ascot winner Terries Royale in the Leger Legends race (3.45), while Gerald Mosse is only recently retired and will be a huge asset to Hartur D'Oudairies.

Things certainly don't get any easier in the last two races but trainer George Boughey has two good chances in the 6½f handicap (4.15) with dual course winner Baradar and the in-form Spangled Mac, while the unexposed Lennox and recent Musselburgh winner Miners Gamble look the two against the field in the final leg (4.50).

World Pool tip

Given the top two in the betting for the Flying Five Stakes (3.35), Bradsell and Believing, are ridden by Hollie Doyle and Ryan Moore, they will take out an even larger slice of the market on the World Pool than with traditional bookmakers.

As far as World Pool plays go, it can only make sense to oppose them. A Swinger is the recommended bet as, with 18 runners, getting two in the first three is a more realistic assignment than the Quinella. Feel free to have a swing at the latter too if you fancy.

The selected horses are Kerdos and Makarova. Kerdos has already won a major 5f sprint this year and is at his best at stiff tracks off a strong pace. He should get both here. Makarova is admirably consistent, recorded a career best only three runs ago and has since placed in a Group 2 over this course and distance.

How to bet on the World Pool via the Tote

World Pool allows punters to bet into larger pools, which means better dividends and quite often playing against international bettors who tend to congregate around the same trainers and jockeys in every race. With more than 20 World Pool fixtures in Britain and Ireland each year, there are plenty of chances for Racing Post readers to exercise their local knowledge.

Betting on the World Pool via the Tote could not be easier. Because the pools are all commingled, all bets placed on the Tote for World Pool races will automatically be put into the World Pool against bettors from all over the world.

This applies only to bets that are part of the World Pool. These are: Win, Place (first two in a four-six runner race, first three for seven-20 runners, four for 21 runners or more), Exacta, Quinella (reversed Exacta in a single stake), Swinger and Trifecta.
