Doncaster Placepot tips: Paul Kealy's perm for the £150,000 guaranteed pool on St Leger day

Chancellor is a short price for a horse who doesn't have the best form and took three runs to reach the level he has, so he can be opposed for Placepot purposes in Doncaster's opener (1.50).

Take him on with Wolf Of Badenoch, whose Vintage Stakes second is the best form, and Righthere Rightnow, who is seriously well regarded and gave an indication of why with a deeply impressive debut win at Newmarket.

Vintage Clarets and Rumstar are my two in a wide-open Portland (2.25), but just in case the lower draws are favoured I'll add Albasheer, who will no doubt be rattling home late under Hollie Doyle.

I'll be bitterly disappointed if Poet Master isn't in the first three in Park Stakes (3.00), but I'd better not go too gung-ho. Kinross has conditions that will suit better than for any of his other three races this term, and he will surely run well.

In the St Leger (3.40) it's any two from the Aidan O'Brien three as far as I can see, and Grosvenor Square and Illinois are the pair I like best in that order.

The next handicap (4.15) is tough, but Daysofourlives is on the same mark as when fourth in the Hunt Cup and seems to run his race every time, while the long-absent Lion Of War was around 6-1 for a Grade 1 in America last year, and is a dangerous floater returning so late after a gelding operation.

Mr King was quite an eyecatcher on his debut for Iain Jardine at York last time and is the third selection.

There's a maiden to close (4.50) the Placepot and O'Brien's Scandinavia has the best form of those to have run by some way. Ralph Beckett had a rock-solid 25 per cent strike-rate with unraced juveniles from September onwards last year, so his New York Minute, related to a couple of 100-plus performers, is of interest.

World Pool tip

Five of the last six winners of Leopardstown's 7f premier handicap (5.10) have been three-year-olds and five of the last ten winners have come from British yards, who have a strong representation with horses from the Classic generation.

My preference of those would be Garfield Shadow and Cuban Tiger and they are well worth putting in Swingers on the Tote World Pool.

Tom Marquand won the Balmoral Handicap for Jessica Harrington in 2020 and has his first ride for her in Ireland on Raknah, who is the third selection. She couldn't handle Group 3 company last time but is perfectly well handicapped on her fifth in a good race at York before that.

How to bet on the World Pool via the Tote

World Pool allows punters to bet into larger pools, which means better dividends and quite often playing against international bettors who tend to congregate around the same trainers and jockeys in every race. With more than 20 World Pool fixtures in Britain and Ireland each year, there are plenty of chances for Racing Post readers to exercise their local knowledge.

Betting on the World Pool via the Tote could not be easier. Because the pools are all commingled, all bets placed on the Tote for World Pool races will automatically be put into the World Pool against bettors from all over the world.

This applies only to bets that are part of the World Pool. These are: Win, Place (first two in a four-six runner race, first three for seven-20 runners, four for 21 runners or more), Exacta, Quinella (reversed Exacta in a single stake), Swinger and Trifecta.
