David Jennings and Johnny Dineen with their best bets for the 2024-25 jumps season
Upping The Ante is back! Johnny Dineen and David Jennings return for a brand-new ante-post series and we've picked out the team's best bets for the 2024-25 jumps season . . .
Can you provide a horse to back every time they run this season?
Johnny Dineen: Let It Rain
"She ran well at Chepstow first time out against a reasonable gelding. I would imagine that she will win every single race that she runs in between now and Cheltenham."
David Jennings: Tripoli Flyer
"He has loads of pace and the better the race the better he is going to be. He can win a maiden hurdle before taking a novice and then gradually step up in class. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a Supreme Novices' Hurdle contender by the end of the season."
... and a horse to lay every time they run?
Johnny Dineen: Ahoy Senor
"He's going to the Betfair Chase and I don't think he'll win that. He's only won one race outside of novice company which is a scandalous return for a horse with his ability."
David Jennings: Fact To File
"He's now almost joint-favourite for a Gold Cup and I don't think we've seen enough of him to think that he's an absolute worldie."
Who do you fancy in the Paddy Power Gold Cup?
Johnny Dineen: Ginny's Destiny
"He has a nice racing weight and is surely as good as Stage Star who won it well last year. I like the profile of a novice going into this race and he's been trained for it."
David Jennings: Lets Go Champ and Fugitif
"The two-mile six-and-a-half-furlong trip stretched Lets Go Champ in the Galway Plate and if you take Protetorat and Ginny's Destiny out of this there are few classy horses in the line-up. Fugitif is well handicapped and it's just a case of whether he's cherry-ripe for this."
Who are you with in the Greatwood Hurdle?
Johnny Dineen: Dysart Enos
"She's definitely well in off a mark of 131; the handicapper has given her a big chance."
David Jennings: Dysart Enos
"The best-handicapped horse in Britain and Ireland runs here in Dysart Enos. She's unbeaten, runs off a mark of 131 and has been trained for the race."
Can you give us a tip for the Cheltenham Festival?
Johnny Dineen: Sounds Victorious (25-1 for the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle)
"He has an entry at Punchestown on Friday. He's going to be better over hurdles than he was in bumpers and I'll be amazed if he's not a way better horse at three miles."
David Jennings: Romeo Coolio (12-1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle)
"He's a speed horse and has the Cheltenham bumper form from last season. Trainer Gordon Elliott thinks the world of him and I think he ticks a lot of boxes for the Supreme."
