Cheltenham Placepot tips: Paul Kealy's perm for the £250,000 guaranteed pool on Saturday
No horse has set the world alight in the juvenile hurdling division yet, but East India Dock did it well enough against a fellow useful Flat performer at Wincanton on his debut and might well be the answer to Cheltenham's opener (12.35) for James Owen, who won it last year with his half-brother Burdett Road.
He jumped well at Wincanton and was comfortably the best of these on the Flat, so I'd make him banker material despite an open market.
The next (1.10) is competitive on paper, but I reckon the market has it about right. Come On Teddy is well handicapped at his best and new trainer Harry Derham has around a 40 per cent strike-rate with other trainers' cast-offs on their first run for him.
Transmission strikes me as one who will improve as the season progresses, and his 15-length second to Hyland on his return was fair enough given the ratings gap between them.
I don't like the next (1.45) as I'm not convinced L'Eau Du Sud will run if the ground is on the quick side, but think he'll win if he does. Petit Tonnerre and Western Zephyr are the ones I like most otherwise, and this far in advance I'll put all three in to cover myself.
There's no need to be too clever in the Paddy Power Gold Cup (2.20) as it's very easy to see Ginny's Destiny and Ga Law being bang there at the finish.
I'd be happy enough to go with Gowel Road and Pinnacle Peak in the fifth (2.55), while I can see a big plunge coming for Hamsiyann in the final leg (3.30) and expect he will be hard to beat.
