Cheltenham Placepot tips: Paul Kealy's perm for the £200k guaranteed pool
There is £200k guaranteed in the Placepot pool at Cheltenham, but you're going to have to find the winner of two of the races.
One of them should be easy enough as Jonbon has never lost to main rival Edwardstone and should claim the Shloer (2.20) for the second year in the a row, but I wouldn't rule out any of the four in the novice chase (1.45), so I'm putting all of them in.
Perming more horses in a four-runner chase than the 18-runner handicap hurdle that opens the card (1.10) may sound daft, but at least there are four places to go for.
I prefer Plaisir Des Flos to Double Powerful at the head of the market, while Phantomofthepoints is my second outright bet in the race, but we'll add one more to the mix.
The veteran Whatsupwithyou doesn't have the promise of some of the younger horses, but he does have the most promising jockey in Callum Pritchard, who takes off 10lb, and he has been placed on good ground here before.
In the cross-country race (2.55) I'll be playing it safe (hopefully) by putting in the two who are in the handicap who aren't Conflated, namely Tommie Beau and Busselton.
Potters Charm looks the right favourite in the Albert Bartlett trial (3.30), while the obvious two for me in the last (4.00) are Fasol, who is lobbed in on Flat form at least, and Balhambar, who ran well in a Flat warm-up last month and goes in first-time cheekpieces for Harry Derham, whose five runners in that first-time headgear in 2024 have finished 221P1.
