Chelmsford Placepot picks: Paul Kealy's selections for the £50,000 guaranteed pool

Senior tipster

It's fairly desperate stuff in Chelmsford's opener (5.30), with no fewer than six of the runners due to drop in the handicap from already lowly marks.

Time Patrol was running fairly consistently in December though, and may be the best choice for the Placepot along with Shades Of May.

What form there is to go on in the second race (6.00) suggests Soldiers Star will be very hard to kick out of the frame, so he's banker material.

In the next (6.30), Carlton joined James Owen on a very low mark and is already 2-2 for him. Given the way he came from last to first under little more than hands and heels here last time, a 2lb rise is not going to stop him making it 3-3.

The next leg is considerably more difficult, although I'd expect the well-drawn Rumseg to improve for going handicapping up in trip. He's the first one on the list, with The Outlaw and Africa Charm added as cover.

The fifth (7.30) looks a tricky enough little heat but Once Adaay is a three-time course winner back on a good mark, while Triggered ran his best race in a long while last time and would be dangerous if building on that.

It's pretty weak stuff in the final leg (8.00), but Platinum Jubilee has run well enough on her last couple of starts to suggest she can go close, and Liege is better than he was able to show last time.
