Carlisle Placepot tips: Tom Segal's perm for the £50,000 guaranteed pool
It's always a great card on Colin Parker Memorial Day at Carlisle and Sunday is no different with some competitive handicaps and plenty of high-class horses in action.
In the feature race (1.48) there are plenty of potentially top horses in the line-up. The weights favour Marble Sands over Colonel Harry, and the former has had a couple of Flat runs to get him ready for this, so he can be relied on to finish in the first two.
Grand National eighth Galia Des Liteaux has had a wind operation and is by far the highest-rated mare in the Houghton Mares' Chase (2.53), but conditions and trip are against her. The fit and in-from El Elefante is preferred after her impressive win on her chase debut at Worcester recently.
The other banker is Bill Joyce in the novice hurdle (1.18). He was a huge market mover in the Cheltenham bumper last season (20-1 into 7) and although he didn't run like that, he's surely capable of taking a race of this nature on his hurdles debut.
The other races need a couple of selections and in the opening novice handicap chase (12.48) it might be worth including the Nicky Richards-trained President Scottie in the race named after the trainer's father. The bottom weight Malaita has had a run to get her ready for this and is well treated on the pick of her chase form.
What A Johnny and Dunnet Head, who goes well fresh, are the preferred two in the 2m4f handicap hurdle (2.18), while Snipe and Brandy McQueen both ran well last time and should go well in the staying chase (3.23).
